Michael joined the Balskus Lab in the summer of 2017 as a postdoc interested in glycyl radical enzymes (GREs), highly abundant, but rather understudied enzymes in the human gut microbiome. Having spent his graduate studies with Prof. Jeffrey W. Bode at ETH Zurich (Switzerland) preparing small molecule functionalized, saturated N-heterocycles (e.g. morpholines or piperazines) using SnAP (tin (Sn) amino protocol) reagents, he is looking forward to explore GREs involved in human pathologies. Outside of the lab, Michael spends his free time exploring Boston and learning Spanish.
