Walter J. Sandoval

Walter joined the Balskus Group as a postdoc after obtaining his Ph.D. in Microbiology at NC State University, working under the direction of Dr. Bruno-Barcena. He is interested in finding small molecules that are able to inhibit clinically-relevant microbial metabolic pathways in the human microbiome. He is particularly interested in the use of small molecules (or chemical genetics) as an powerful, yet underused, tool for microbial pathways modulation at community level. Walter likes going to the gym very often (he claims 4 times a week!), and also loves animals and photography.
