Zoie Bunch

Zoie joined the Balskus research group in the summer of 2025 as a postdoctoral fellow after completing her Ph.D. in Medicinal Biochemistry at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In Dr. Nadja Cech’s lab, she investigated how human commensal skin bacteria interact with one another and influence host physiology. She also conducted chemistry education research with Dr. Maia Popova, examining how students interpret molecular representations in organic chemistry. In the Balskus group, Zoie is interested in how microbial interactions contribute to human health and disease.
